Open the Door

The arrangement of museums and the way they display objects play significant roles in perpetuating violence within their institutions, often reinforcing one-dimensional narratives. This case study explores the various ways in which museums, as possessors and institutions, contribute to different form of violence against people and objects. The collection of looted artifacts, displayed behind glass, reinforces a possession relation that extends to people and culture. The spatial, programmatic, and administrative organization of museums lacks openness, leading visitors and "others", such as diasporic communities, to remain silent. Allowing us to question the relationship that museums have with their objects and with "others".
